Digital Asset Manager—Digital Collections and Services

The Digital Asset Manager is responsible for all operations related to the digital asset management system (DAMS) including the organizing, cataloging, preservation, and managing of all digital media and associated metadata necessary to support the Museum’s collection, exhibitions, and programming. They provide access to images and media for all staff and develop long-range plans for efficient and sustainable digital asset archiving procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Three to five years’ experience maintaining a digital asset management system as an application administrator, preferably at a museum or similar arts organization
  • Strong technical skills, including experience with Access, Excel, The Museum System (TMS), and a commercial digital asset management system, as well as proficiency in extracting and manipulating data using these tools
  • Knowledge of imaging and metadata standards; understanding of roles relating to image creation and use across museum departments
  • Knowledge of basic digital image editing

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as application manager for the Museum’s DAMS; troubleshoot technical issues and remain up to date with software updates and bug fixes
  • Ingest new media assets, create and catalog associated metadata, perform quality control of media assets
  • Maintain the Museum’s metadata standards, monitor naming conventions for all database records, and develop solutions for new file-naming needs
  • Train new users and provide ongoing one-on-one training, develop and update training documentation, field all DAMS-related questions for staff across the Museum
  • Supervise staff-loading assets and associated metadata
  • Maintain other departmental database systems and research improvements
  • Survey needs and set goals for future digitization initiatives of Museum collections
  • Act as departmental point person for the Museum’s “Open Collection” (Museum’s website); troubleshoot in collaboration with the Technology department
  • Collaborate with the Registrar’s Office to maintain seamless communication of data between TMS and DAMS
  • Participate in the community of digital asset managers at other cultural institutions and in ongoing research and developments in media preservation
