The Gallery/Studio Program offers fun, challenging studio art courses. Be inspired by professional teaching artists and spend time discussing artworks from our exhibitions, learn new skills and techniques, and create your own art using both new and traditional materials. Classes are available for children, teens, and adults. All levels of experience welcome!

Spring 2022 courses

Painting: In Memoriam
Saturdays, 10:30 am–12:30 pm
Saturdays, 1:30–3:30 pm

See how artists such as Andy Warhol and Rafael Lozano-Hemmer explore grief and mourning, and celebrate the lives of those lost through powerful memorial artworks. Learn how to construct a painting, from stretching a canvas to adding fine details, while you grow your skills with acrylic paints. Finish the semester with completed works that honor those you love.

Printmaking: Art Machines
Sundays, 1:30–3:30 pm
Find inspiration in our special exhibition Andy Warhol: Revelation, and see the artist in a new light as we explore rarely discussed aspects of his work. Study the new technologies and printmaking materials Warhol used, from screenprints and Xerox machines to diamond dust, then make your own artworks that reflect multiple aspects of your identity.

Photography: Art, Tech, and Display
Sundays, 1:30–3:30 pm
Learn to use a digital camera and create works of art that blur the line between the physical and digital. We’ll examine the artworks of Rafael-Lozano Hemmer and Baseera Khan and discuss their use of photography as a tool in contemporary art. Then, we’ll create works of art that go beyond printed photographs. Open to all levels of experience. Cameras are provided; the class will review the basic functions of digital cameras and focus on lighting and composition techniques in photography.
