Fall 2021 courses

Painting: The Portrait and Society
Saturdays, 10:30 am–12:30 pm

Using The Obama Portraits as a focus, study Kehinde Wiley and Amy Sherald’s approach to capturing the iconic figures of Barack and Michelle Obama before crafting your own portrait paintings. Compare portraiture traditions across cultures, from ancient times to today, and experiment with anatomy and proportions to create portraits using water-soluble oil paints.

Drawing and Printmaking: Spirituality and Secularism
Sundays, 1:30–3:30 pm
From the ancient world to Andy Warhol, religion has served as a driver for artistic practices across centuries and societies. Create artworks that express your personal experience with spirituality and faith after looking at religious iconography in Andy Warhol: Revelation and studying sacred objects throughout the Museum. Draw from observation in our galleries using graphite, charcoal pencils, and oil pastels, and segue into printmaking with silkscreens, stencils, and transfer drawings.

Photography: Spectacular Images
