Ring with Magic Gem. Gem, iron, Overall diameter: 7/8 in. (2.3 cm). Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn Museum Collection, X20.7. Creative Commons-BY (Photo: Brooklyn Museum, CUR.X20.7_view4.jpg)

"CUR" at the beginning of an image file name means that the image was created by a curatorial staff member. These study images may be digital point-and-shoot photographs, when we don\'t yet have high-quality studio photography, or they may be scans of older negatives, slides, or photographic prints, providing historical documentation of the object.
Red jasper (?) oval gem mounted in iron shank and bezel. Engraved surface of gem convex. In intaglio, standing helmeted man facing right, right hand supports spear, left hand supports shield which rests on ground. Three inscriptions: a single column of inscription under his feet, a single column on the right side of the figure and one on the left of the figure. Iron setting old but probably not ancient.
