"CUR" at the beginning of an image file name means that the image was created by a curatorial staff member. These study images may be digital point-and-shoot photographs, when we don\'t yet have high-quality studio photography, or they may be scans of older negatives, slides, or photographic prints, providing historical documentation of the object.
It is difficult to identify this kachina. His feathered ruff and blue mask would indicate the Blue Warrior of the West (Salimopia Thlian'ona however his round eyes, arched brows, and markings on his mask- snakes, dragonflies-are not this warrior’s attributes. This Kachina has a helmet style mask, blue with large round black eyes with curved eyebrows either side. His nose is a cylindrical snout flanked with a black snake either side. Each side of the helmet mask has a black dragonfly design. Wears a cloth skirt with yarn ties, painted on boots. He has a large black feathered ruff around his neck and striped brown feathers on his head. Back of head has a dragonfly on it.
