On View: American Art Galleries, 5th Floor, The United States on the World Stage, 1865–1930
Daniel Cottier, a leading proponent of the Aesthetic Movement style in Britain, opened a branch of his interior decorating firm in New York in 1873 and became a direct competitor of Herter Brothers for the city’s richest clients. This clock combines a case of eighteenth-century English style with a face inspired by Asian design. It was made for Ichabod T. Williams, the head of New York’s leading import firm of exotic woods.

Table Clock: the case made by Daniel Cottier (1838-1891) and clock works made by Tiffany and company. Camino mahogany case in the neoclassical style with broken pediment, swags and classical volutes. Clock face with Aesthetic movement design influences from Japan, the Near East and medieval grotesques; the whole with over 460 pieces of brass detail. Terminates on bun feet and raised on rectangular plinth. Brass handle at top.
Condition: excellent original condition.
